What is Creativity?

The task sounds really simple doesn't it? Define Creativity. But if you try it is actually very hard. When i googled the definition of creativity it defined it as  "The use of the imagination or original ideas, esp. in the production of an artistic work." I actually disagree with this statement, as i believe that something does not have to be original to be creative.

For example, we did a task in class today, where we were given a piece of paper, and elastic band and a pair of scissors, and were told to make a flower with just those items. The final products that we came up with were not necessarily original, as people probably have made flowers in this way before, but everybody in the room was creative in the way in which they made the tasks, and all of the flowers were unique, as no-one else would make a flower that was identical to the products we made.

Things that we came up with as a group that we are envolved in Creativity:
  • Innovation
  • Designing
  • thinking differently
  • Overcoming Problems
  • Not being affraid to do things differently

The definition that i came up with for creativity was "creativity is the process of turning a personal vision/idea into something that will catch the attention of others and is affected by your personal experiences, upbringing and environment. It does not have to be original or new" this is what i believe is the definition of creativity for me, but i believe that creativity can mean different things to everyone, so there is no right answer.

How creative do I think I am?
I believe that i am quite creative, but then i believe that everyone in the world is creative, just in their own ways. For example, someone could be creative in an artistic way, whereas someone else could be creative in writing, so it all just depends. Also, if someone tells me to be creative, i find it very hard to do so, so i believe that creativity is a spur of the moment thing, that cannot be brought up on cue.

What are my Creative Influences?
Everything around me acts as an influence to me. The music I listen to. The Films I watch. My Friends and Family. The Places I go and the experiences I have. They all affect me and my outlook on life, and this is what I believe affects creativity.
